Spotlight illuminating the bush during a night game drive
HomeSafari TypesNight Safari
Safari Type

Night Safari.

See who comes out after dark — spotlighted drives reveal a different cast of nocturnal predators and creatures that daytime safaris never show you.

What is it

The bush after dark

Many of East Africa's most fascinating animals — leopards, hyenas, civets, genets, bushbabies — are most active after sunset. A handful of private conservancies permit guided night drives using red-filtered spotlights that don't disturb the animals, opening up sightings you simply will not get on a standard daytime game drive.

Best for
  • ›Travellers who have done a few daytime safaris already
  • ›Spotting nocturnal predators and shyer, smaller species
  • ›A different kind of evening activity at camp
  • ›Private conservancies that permit night driving
Good to know
  • Only available in select private conservancies — not inside most national parks
  • Best added to the back half of a trip once you've had a few daytime drives
  • Bring a light jacket — temperatures drop quickly after dark
